Many people overlook the condition of surge protectors and power strips. These wear out over time and can quietly become hazards, especially if they're overloaded or tucked away under furniture.

Lighting is a core part of your business because it affects how well your employees focus and how much you pay in utilities. If your fixtures are out-of-date or poorly designed, you could be throwing away money every month. Mr. Electric helps local businesses overhaul their lighting, so keep reading if you’re wondering whether your current lighting is working for you or against you.
The color temperature of your fixtures is measured in Kelvin. It can influence mood, alertness, and accuracy. Offices with overly warm or overly cool lighting can see drops in productivity, increased complaints about fatigue or eye strain, and inconsistent work output. The sweet spot for most commercial spaces tends to fall between 3500K and 5000K. Warmer light is below 3500K, and can feel cozy, but it’s not ideal for tasks that require alertness or detailed focus. Cooler white light around 4000K–5000K mimics daylight and helps workers stay sharp and focused. That’s why it's the go-to choice for conference rooms, open workspaces, and retail areas where attention to detail is needed. Healthcare and industrial settings need to keep people safe, and insufficient light levels can lead to accidents or missteps. Harsh, glaring light can lead to long-term issues like headaches or burnout. A professional electrician in Cincinnati can take a close look at each area of your facility and recommend the best lighting tone for the job at hand.

Businesses that haven’t updated their lighting in the past decade usually have systems that waste energy. Fluorescent tubes, incandescent bulbs, and outdated fixtures draw more power and need frequent replacement. With energy prices on the rise, those inefficiencies can hit your bottom line pretty hard. Switching to LED lighting is an easy, impactful change. LEDs use up to 75% less energy than older-style bulbs and can last 25 times longer. You’ll enjoy fewer service calls and much lower utility bills over time. The initial investment pays for itself quickly. Smart lighting systems will help you save even more. With programmable controls, occupancy sensors, and daylight harvesting features, you can automate your building’s lighting to suit how and when spaces are actually used. No more leaving lights blazing in empty offices or stairwells. Larger properties like warehouses, hotels, or retail centers can save thousands of dollars per year. Even in smaller offices, LED retrofits and smart controls make a noticeable dent in monthly expenses. Your electrician can map out a phased plan that fits your budget and offers the best return.
Every commercial property must meet local, state, and federal electrical codes. Lighting systems are a big part of that. These rules satisfy inspectors, but they also protect the safety of everyone who comes into your building, including employees, customers, vendors, and maintenance staff. Non-compliance can lead to fines, insurance claim issues, or serious accidents. Exit signs, emergency lighting, pathway illumination, and outdoor lighting around your property all have specific requirements. If your lighting doesn’t meet the minimum thresholds for brightness or coverage, or if it's wired improperly, you could be putting lives at risk. Regulations also change. What was compliant ten years ago may no longer meet the updated National Electrical Code or your city’s fire safety standards. Many areas now require that exit signs and emergency lights have battery backup systems in case of a power outage. Some municipalities are also implementing stricter guidelines for exterior lighting to reduce light pollution and energy waste. Working with a qualified electrician will ensure that every change you make stays within code. They’ll know what local inspectors are looking for and can help you avoid future issues.

Read MoreI called into Mr. Electric of Cincinnati West and was greeted by Greg. He was super polite and asked how he could help. He walked me through rewiring this antique fixture in my dining room and got me through mounting it with no issues at all. Greg was extremely helpful and patient and I will definitely be using him and his team again in the future!!
Greg's team is the best! Mr. Electric are responsive, dependable, professional and work with a sense of urgency. Mr. Electric is our dedicated electriation from now on. We had an emergency outage day before New years Eve. Greg responded to my request within minutes, and the crew came out to my house within 2 hrs. We were out of state, and Greg kept us informed of the progress every step of the way. We later on has to work with insurance and Greg provided all the paper work, and even talked to our insurance to help us get the coverage. James and Nicolas worked day and night on the new years Eve and New years day to help get the electricity back. We were able to spend the new years Eve at home all thanks to Nicolas and James's hard work.
We had a bad wind storm, a tree fell on my neighbors property and it managed to completely rip out the power supply to our building. James and Nick came out and assured me that they could fix it in a timely manner. That was an understatement! They were so kind, professional and caring (I have a mentally disabled child and they understood my frustrations) they had my power supply reconnected to the building and the power back on by the very next day! (NEW YEARS EVE!) Saving me a TON of money on food and shelter expenses (due to cold temperatures outside)! Hero's in real life don't wear capes, they do their jobs with compassion for others. Thank you James and Nick #Grateful on Elm Park Dr.
James did a super job. He went above and beyond to replace the outlet for my oven. Also, he changed difficult to reach light bulbs in my stairwell and upgraded the light switch. Finally, Greg efforts to find time to squeeze me in for a last minute appointment on a busy holiday weekend. I appreciate both of them and the work they did. More importantly, I felt like they treated me as if I were part of their family.
